So it's been a while since I've "blogged" but I did want to share some exciting news. "The Nice Girl" has been accepted into the Sunscreen Film Festival in Tampa, FL. This will be the first time I have a film showing in Florida so it is very exciting. I will post more information as I get it, but for those of you in the Tampa area, I hope you can check out the film.

Great news. The Nice Girl has been accepted into another local film festival - The other Venice Film Festival. Our film will screen at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 17 at Digital Domain.
300 Rose Ave Venice, CA 90291. More details to come. Their website will update the info soon - http://othervenicefilmfestival.com/ Check out a review of "The Nice Girl" from Richard Propes, of The Independent Critic.
http://theindependentcritic.com/short_film_collection_15 Here is what he wrote: THE NICE GIRL Director: V.K. Shah Writer: Miceal Og O'Donnell Starring: April Wade, Sigmund Watkins Running Time: 10 Mins. Grade: A 3.5 Stars After a terrible day at work, Kate is accosted by Jack, a stranger. Jack leads Kate on a quick journey that could change her, might kill her, may test her or, perhaps, she may find herself transformed. Directed by V.K. Shah, this 10-minute high definition film is a dramatic short featuring outstanding performances from April Wade, as Kate, and Sigmund Watkins, as Jack. Having had its festival debut as the recent Los Angeles Shorts Film Festival, "The Nice Girl" benefits from a strong chemistry between Wade and Watkins that is edgy without being over the top and a strong musical accompaniment from Holly Amber Church. Sam Rosenthal keeps the camera work simple, deferring to the characters and allowing the story to shine on its own. Shine it does. While the film's modest budget is a tad obvious in a couple spots, Shah clearly knows his strength lies in Miceal Og O'Donnell's solid script and in giving his cast room to flex their muscles. Filmed using a Panasonic HVX-200 with a 35MM adaptor, "The Nice Girl" is proof positive that a talented director, writer and cast can nearly always overcome the inherent limits of low-budget filmmaking. "The Nice Girl" is an intelligent and insightful film from a promising director, a gifted writer and two actors whose names you will likely be hearing in the future. What a fun night! We had a packed house, and a great response for the film. We had our entire cast, post team, and lots of good friends attend. I enjoyed all of the films in the screening, and I think the crowd did as well.
I was very nervous about the screening since its the first time anyone has ever seen it. We screened about 3rd to last and my leg was shaking. After the films screened, there was a brief Q & A. Christina Kim, actress from The Cheapest Man, asked a question which was nice for me. I didn't ask her too, that's just her being supportive as always. It was great meeting the other directors, 3 of them USC alums. After the screening. we all went to Sushi Dan for drinks and food and good times. I am very appreciative for everyone's support on this; even if you couldn't attend the festival, supportive words are always nice. I will post pictures soon! We're about 24 hours away from the premiere of The Nice Girl. I've been at the festival for the last few days and there have been a lot of great films. Our screening block is extra special because there will be a film with Kanye West (directed by Spike Jonze) playing as well. I would suggest buying tickets in advance. I am very excited about the premiere (and a bit nervous), but it will be nice to see the film on a big screen.
Here is a mention the film got on Film Courage Radio. Check out the link, the mention comes in after two minutes. http://bit.ly/fEomz Tickets for the film are available online at www.LAShortsFest.com. (July 29, 7:45 pm, Program 33) Bring some friends!
We had a great time in San Francisco with the Frozen Film Fest. It's a cool city, and the festival was a lot of fun. "The Cheapest Man" had a good reception . We had several people show up - Christina (lead actress), Vanessa Bryan (wife of lead actor), Sergio Paleaz (production coordinator), and more. I had several friends there as well. Today I dropped of the screening copy of The Nice Girl to the LA Shorts office, very exciting. I am still finalizing the poster and postcards and additional promotional material. Just like that, The Nice Girl will be premiering at the LA Shorts Festival at the end of July!!!! It's a great festival and it's the top short film festival around. We had a great time last year and I hope you all can join me this year! More details to come. |
